Get a Northwest take on the most recent happenings in the golf industry, the travel industry and just about everything else.

I finally got out to play a full round of golf last weekend.  For some reason, as I've gotten older, it's harder to motivate myself to play in the rain and the cold.  I know, it's pathetic.

I won't lie, I didn't really want to listen to the Tiger Woods press conference. I figured I could just wait until the recap was released or the press release was posted on TigerWoods.com. But, you never know, something unexpected could happen, so I decided to tune in.

Did I fall off the wagon a little bit when it comes to my blog? Absolutely, but golf season is pretty much over here in the Northwest and I've got some extra time on my hands!

The next five years will be busy ones for Chambers Bay.  The site of the 2010 US Amateur and the 2015 US Open will undergo many changes as the USGA continues to prepare it to challenge the world's best golfers. Just last week, Chambers Bay released an update on the changes being made, as well as their progress.  So far, everything looks great to the eyes of those at the USGA. "We're very pleased by the progress that has been made to date," said Mike Dave, Senior Director of Rules and Competitions for the USGA.  "These visits give us great insight into the golf course architecture and fabulous championship set-up opportunities at Chambers Bay." So far, the USGA has given Pierce County $1 million to use toward improvements and a to add a 17-acre practice facility to the property.  Nine tee areas have been improved and the approach around the fourth green has been altered. By the time the Amateur rolls around next year, the course will be firm and fast.  The all-fescue surfaces will give the world's best...

When golfers have fewer dollars to play with, golf courses compete more and more to get business.  This year has been very interesting when it comes to specials at golf courses around the region. Another great offer came across my desk just the other day.  This time, the special was for Eagle's Landing (in Clackamas, Oregon). The 27-hole executive course has become a favorite of those looking to get out and play a few quick holes or to practice their short games.  There's also a nice little miniature golf course to enjoy. In addition to adding longer summer hours, the course is offering greens fees of $5 per nine before noon (Monday thru Thursday).  That's a pretty darn good price to get out and hit the sticks and putt on some nice greens. So if  you don't have the time to get out and play a full round, sneak out of work for a bit one morning and take in the breathtaking views from Eagles Landing Golf Course.  If you don't live in the Portland area, look around and you're sure to find great specials...

In addition to owning Northwest Golf Adventures, I've been writing golf and travel articles since 2000. My main focus has always been golf in the Pacific Northwest, but I've had stories appear in association magazines across the country, several national publications and on radio and television. I'm always looking for great stories to write about!
